Green Acres Country Market August 2011

Here it is Fall!

Like many of us I feel that summer has come and gone very quickly!  Why I did not even get a chance to write on this blog since June..........................that could be a good sign that the garden market has kept me busy enough!  Indeed it has.........the garden store was a huge success with only doing advertising through word of mouth.  As of the weekend of Sept 20 the garden store was closed for Green Acres as we were pretty much sold out!  Only a few pounds of pre-ordered vegetables were left.  Thank you to everyone who came out to the store.........hope to see you next year with an even greater variety of produce and kitchen need-to-haves to buy.  Enjoy winter!

Rain, Rain please don't show we need the sun out to help us grow!

June is proving to be a fairly wet month so far.  The rain is certainly encouraging the grass to grow very quickly but for the vegetables we need a little bit more sunshine to get them growing taller faster! But everything is up, the final touches on the storefront are being done and summer will get warmer. Time for camping, barbecue get together's and sunbathing!

Beautiful day for Mother's Day!

Hope everyone enjoyed the day with their mother or just thinking about their mother!  It certainly was a gorgeous day and I spent the day helping my mother in law with her lawn cutting, making hanging baskets, and some general cleaning before settling down for a visit with a nice tasty cup of Lemon Zinger tea!  I visited a couple of our garden centers and was thrilled to see all the people out looking for that perfect plant.  I was amazed at how big all the plants were in the greenhouses and wondered how they do that so early in the year!  In my small greenhouse my plants have just gone into hanging baskets, the tomatoes and peppers have just gone into 1 gallon pots and I hope that I can now keep them in the greenhouse overnight without heat!  It has been so cold here that I have babied them every night and brought them indoors.  I am certain by the May long weekend they will be as big as the plants I seen in the commercial greenhouses today!  Just in time for my first opening!  Keep reading - More to come by the long weekend!

Can you believe we had snow falling today on April 28!

Sure can be mind boggling for gardeners - but I think I outsmarted the weather man this time as I had all the plants in the house avoiding the excessive chilly cold in the greenhouse! The plants are looking very healthy and are just dying to get back in the greenhouse to enjoy some humidity and sunshine! In the next week or two many of you can expect to see an invitation for a "premier open house showing" of the Green Acres storefront country market with an accompanying early preview of some of the products for sale. Keep watching!

April 1, 2011 and spring is definitely here!

The snow is all gone now and so it should be considering it is April 1, 2011; however, we did have a huge amount this year.  The tulips, daffodils and crocuses are up, there is flocks of birds with thousands of birds in each flock hanging out in the field enjoying the fresh greenery, hundreds of Canada geese just lazing about in the field and the deer and the antelope playing!  Oops there is no antelope only deer right now - guess I got carried away with the old song Home, Home on the Range! Now its time for sunshine to help these hundreds of baby tomotoes, green and hot peppers, petunias, calendulas, that I have growing in the house.
